We left the heavy rains of mount Isa and headed towards our last stop, before making it home to Townsville. That stop would be the Richmond Caravan park. The flinders highway is a great drive with towns such as Hughenden , Julia creek ,clon curry and charters towers all having there own stories. We pulled into Richmond where we were directed to our site. The powered sites were very small and pokey and didn't make for a great first impression. We set up camp and took the girls down to the lake which was about 80m away. Here we were, in the middle of the drought stricken outback and Richmond had provided beautiful green lush surrounds which included BBQ area, play ground and a water park for the kids. For these reason it's certainly worth a stop over, however I would get a non powered site over looking the water. The caravan park also has good washing facilities and a dump point.
SCORE Richmond Lakeview caravan park 61/100
Tip - always have spare hose connections and a QTY of gold coins for washing clothes. Also if time permits , inspect the park for the best camp sites, non powered sites may be your best option.
For a very sad story out of the Richmond community follow this link Australian story . I was fortunate enough to meet this beautiful couple through my job as a firefighter and their strength is absolutely phenomenal.
